She’s a hunter, killer, sister, but above all a selfless mother. Soon after you meet Manyari, queen of her pride, she does something both unusual and bold. She leaves the sanctuary of her family with her young cubs and takes them on a dangerous odyssey. She makes a bid to escape because two young bloods are sniffing around and, if they take over the pride, they will kill her cubs. Out in the wilderness, away from the protection of the pride male and without her sister to help her hunt, Manyari is forced to take huge risks. When her cubs are starving they wander back dangerously close to the young princes; as Manyari fights for her cubs’ very survival, her every move is shadowed by the marauding nomads. They know she’s out there and they want her back. Witness the terrifying hazards this mother takes to give her cubs a few more precious months of life.

For African elephants, survival depends on successful migration to and from their ancestral feeding grounds each year. They must constantly follow the rhythms of the seasons, treading the millennia-old paths to reliable sources of food and water—and away from dangerous predators. During the dry season of late summer and autumn, elephants must risk the journey toward water and the promise of continued survival for the herd. Crisscrossing the continent from watering hole to watering hole, the herd can only survive if its leader remembers the exact location of each crucial pit stop. This responsibility falls to the matriarch of each elephant herd: the eldest female has a long memory, coupled with a lifetime of honing her instinctual awareness of the landscape around her. After the tragic death of her mother, the old elephant matriarch, Mensah must now take her young calf and the herd to safety. She is their final hope and must lead them into their ancient feeding grounds.

When she committed suicide, he was forced to weather a storm of speculation and accusation over her death, which gathered momentum after Assia Wevill, his lover, also killed herself.

Michel Roux Jr explores the life and influence of his great culinary hero, Georges Auguste Escoffier - the man who turned eating into dining. The first great restaurant chef, Escoffier established restaurants in grand hotels all over the world and in these centres of luxury and decadence the world's most glamorous figures of the day would mix - actresses and princes, duchesses and opera singers. Catering to this international jet set, Escoffier produced fabulous dishes that combined luxury and theatricality, elevating restaurant food to an art form. Escoffier was born the humble son of a Provencal blacksmith, but at 13 began working in a restaurant kitchen. In the 19th century they were infernal, coal-fired, unventilated places and chefs had a shorter life expectancy than even coal miners. As Escoffier worked his way up the career ladder, he dedicated himself to improving the lot of his staff - from banning alcohol and swearing in his kitchens to buying smart clothes for young chefs who couldn't afford them.

The film is a lyrical journey through the iconic ghats, narrow lanes and forgotten spaces of the holy city of Varanasi, where Swaroop tries to find traces of film-maker DG Phalke's life. Known as the father of Indian cinema, Phalke shot his first film in 1913. His movies were successful, but later in life he found himself without backers. Becoming increasingly marginalised, impoverished and disillusioned with the world of cinema, Phalke went to live in Varanasi, where he returned to the theatre and wrote the semi-autobiographical play Rangbhoomi. Swaroop brings Phalke's story alive through the vibrant palette of sounds, sights and characters so typical of the holiest of the seven sacred cities to Hinduism and Jainism.

For the Love of Elephants is an intimate portrait of an amazing elephant-human bond that develops at an elephant rehabilitation centre near Nairobi, Kenya.
