AVG Releases 6 New Decryption Tools So You No Longer Have To Pay Ransomware

AVG’s Virus Lab has released six free decryption tools for recent ransomware strains so users can start taking back what’s theirs without forking over any cash to the bad guys. Ransomware is a multi-million-pound crime operation that strikes everyone from hospitals to police forces to even your grandparents.

With AVG’s new tools (full details here), you can recover files infected by these ransomware strains:

1. Apocalypse: Apocalypse encrypts your data and appends an .encrypted extension to them, then tells you to pay a ransom via email. Use these two tools for two versions of this strain:

2. BadBlock: BadBlock encrypts your files, alerting you with red ransom message windows. AVG’s decryption tool for BadBlock can be downloaded here:

3. Crypt888 (aka Mircop): Crypt888 creates encrypted files and changes your desktop’s wallpaper to a ransom letter with a Guy Fawkes mask. Fix it with this: http://files-download.avg.com/util/avgrem/avg_decryptor_Crypt888.exe

4. Legion: Legion encrypts and renames files, changing your wallpaper to a warning message. The decryptor is here: http://files-download.avg.com/util/avgrem/avg_decryptor_Legion.exe

5. SZFLocker: Original files are rewritten with a Polish message. Use this to decrypt: http://files-download.avg.com/util/avgrem/avg_decryptor_SzfLocker.exe

6. TeslaCrypt: This ransomware is infamous, encrypting your files with different extensions such as .vvv, .micro, .mp3. AVG’s tool is here: http://files-download.avg.com/util/avgrem/avg_decryptor_TeslaCrypt3.exe

Just run a full system scan on the infected PC, match your infection to the descriptions above, download the appropriate tool and launch it.
