Lady Bianca - Rollin' (2001)

It's been six years since Lady Bianca released her debut album, and if her sophomore effort makes one thing clear, it's that she needs to spend less time doing whatever else it is she does with her life and start making more albums. Her rich, chesty voice shifts effortlessly between a clear, classically trained contralto and a soulful growl, and she can burn her way through a slow blues better than just about anyone alive. The songs on Rollin' veer stylistically between straight-up blues and rocking R&B, and lyrically between "My man is sexy" ("Lookin' At My Man," "Easy Lovin'") and "Keep your hands off my man" ("Keep My Baby Outta Your Eyes," "You Slept With My Man Last Night"). Her backing band delivers a sound that has all the supple groove of Memphis and all the muscle of Kansas City, and the combination of that band with her voice is incendiary. Highlights include the quietly menacing "You Slept With My Man Last Night" and the celebratory "Easy Loving." Highly recommended. ~ Rick Anderson, All Music
