David Jalbert - Prokofiev Piano Sonatas (Vol. I) (2021)

For his latest ATMA Classique recording project, pianist David Jalbert tackles the complete cycle of Prokofiev’s piano sonatas. This ambitious undertaking will be released in three separate volumes starting in September 2021. The first volume features four piano sonatas from Prokofiev’s Russian period, which ended in 1918 with his departure for America. These are paired with four short pieces for piano, including the famous Suggestion diabolique (Diabolic suggestion). A virtuoso with a warm, elegant style and a wide-ranging repertoire, pianist David Jalbert has established himself among the elite of a new generation of classical musicians: “Jalbert’s piano playing is remarkable for its sweep, confidence, sensitivity, power and color, what more can we ask?” (Fanfare). He has been a guest soloist with numerous major orchestras and is an sought-after chamber musician, collaborating over the years with artists such as Nicola Benedetti, Jean-Philippe Collard, Rachel Barton Pine, Denise Djokic, Joel Quarrington, and performing with his piano trio, Triple Forte.
