gattsu2021 Looks like people here are really quick to discourage new ideas and concepts.
I appreciate the impulse that pushed you to want to start a discussion on this topic, and your enthusiasm for volunteering to attempt your suggestion. I think that sometimes people are quicker to discourage new ideas and concepts if those ideas and concepts are not explained with a lot of details. I'm fairly certain that the first person who said, "I'm going to build a flying machine" was very quickly mocked and discouraged, but that the first person who showed the plans for a machine that looked like it had serious potential to lift itself off the ground, was not only encouraged, but cheered on as brilliant. Even if he didn't build a working prototype, he was probably still considered to be destined for something innovative in his lifetime.
I'm not saying that a welcome video is a good idea or a bad idea, but I would encourage you to provide a lot more details of what you had in mind. I don't like to watch videos when there is a text available containing the same content, e.g. [Login to see the link]. But that doesn't mean that other people might not find it more useful than reading a page of rules.
Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
What made you think of offering a welcome video for new users?
Why do you think it might be a good idea?
What would you want to include in the video?
Do you think that people will want to watch a video?
Do you think that people will actually watch the video?
Do you think that the video will be any more accessible or useful than the current [Login to see the link]?
What does it mean to "show how the community works"? What would you "show"?
How does the community "work"? Other than by interaction, trial/error, experience, etc.?
Are you trying to "show" what the [Login to see the link] already says? Is it a video version of the Rules?
I think that the idea needs a lot more clarification for people to want to think about it seriously, or to offer constructive criticism. This is just a recommendation for a thought process to consider when presenting new ideas or suggestions. I hope that it might be useful.
