I propose a twist on this topic...
For those with a favorite actor, list their best performance (or their most memorable performance, the one that's helped form your opinion of the actor).
For example, I mentioned Julia Garner, I think her best work was in Ozark (TV series). However, if you catch her small role in Dirty John (1st season) it's hard to believe it's the same actress. If you watch clips from the true story, you'll also be surprised to see how accurately she portrays Inventing Anna.
This reminds me of another recent performance that is uncanny. Amanda Seyfried. Her performance in the Theranos mini-series The Dropout is uncanny. I had some involvement in related events and maintained knowledge of the topic, as it unfolded; this is one of the more accurate docu-dramas that I've watched. By the time you finish watching, you'll forget it's Amanda Seyfried and you'll think you're truly watching the real-life sociopath Elizabeth Holmes.
Many of you probably thought I was crazy or lacked culture for mentioning Brad Pitt. However, I challenge you to find a more interesting character that is so embellished without overdoing it as his character in 12 Monkeys. You'll notice very few actors can pull-off this type of roll without it appearing silly or clearly "acted". Snatch is another example. I think many people feel like such a suggestion is simple-minded or lacks breadth; however, I truly believe he's underappreciated for his actual talent above/beyond his success/looks.
To [Login to see the link] who mentioned Tom Hanks... He's another great example where you can contrast Bosom Buddies with Forest Gump, Captain Phillips, or Sully. Or even more profound, Cloud Atlas. That's a tremendous range and every one is perfectly executed (perhaps Gump could have been moderated just a tad, lol).
...Lest we forget his brilliant roll in the Carly Rae Jepsen video (lol)
