silversurfer I personally don't understand the benefit of voting on requests. It seems to presume that the more "votes" you have in support of your request, the more likely you are to get what you requested. I don't believe this is true. From what I have seen, requests are generally filled by users of the forum trying to be helpful, not the formal uploaders. The fact is, if someone posts a link to a book I have requested, for example, or if I see a link posted and I would like it as well, nothing prevents me from also downloading it. What will prevent this voting system from appearing to favor the "known and/or liked" members from the "unknown" members who make a request on rare occasion (or more likely, prevent someone from complaining, "Why did <whomever> get their request filled when I had all these votes & no one filled my request? It's not fair/democratic?") And in saying the request will "remain open until solved" ignores the fact that all requests remain open until solved, and a legitimate "Bump" will keep the request visible. If anything, it would make more sense to have a "Thank You" button for anyone else who downloads a posted response to anyone's request. It seems to me that increasing the "Thanks" for downloading the file will encourage more users to respond to requests than voting on requests. I think this thread speaks to the wisdom of relatively new members making suggestions of changing the forum without understanding the demonstrated success of what already exists.
