I be a data junkie! Also, having experienced a couple LITERALLY life-threatening disk failures over the last 30 years, I'm a NAS zealot.
I have 3 Synology DS918+ NAS 4-disk boxes with the following names and RAID configurations:
BOOMBOOM
This contains 2 RAID1 setups (4 drives) and includes serious shit: about $10-15 million in architectural files, DAZ3D stuff, comics, music, and saved SANET or torrent software....serious stuff!
ANYTING
This is a 4 drive RAID5 setup and is the anime, TV, and movie warehouse.
YOUWANT
This is a 4 drive RAID5 setup and has "Why da fuck did I never think of that before?" mappings.
- 1) Because I have multiple computers on the network, the standard Winblows folders (Documents, Photos, Videos, and Downloads) are shared folders on the NAS.
- 2) The shared folders are mapped drives on each computer, which is the location of the listed Winblows folders. This keeps shit organized in one place!
- 3) All SANET downloads are sent to a JDOWNLOADER folder that contains software type folders for review. Permanently saved software is moved to BOOMBOOM.
(DING-DING: Bonus points if anyone can name the movie referenced by the NAS box names!)
For EXTRA-OH-SHIT backup, an 8TB XBOX external drive is connected to one of the NAS and mapped. That XBOX drive is slow, but damn sturdy and has the best 2 USB ports ever.
And, yes, I have no idea how to write a short post! LOL!
