[unknown] By default all ISP's use their DNS servers, this allows them to see exactly what you are browsing on the web, regardless of the domain using SSL or not.
What happened quite recently was CloudFlare and APNIC, both are huge companies decided to combine their resources.
What they come up with was CloudFlare handles traffic, security, and speed (Normally, associated with DDoS attacks and blocking DDoS attacks on websites). APNIC, on the other hand, owns the 1.1.1.1 domain and also 1.0.0.1, therefore, they could be used respectively for a Primary and Secondary Private DNS server system.
It operates much faster than any other ISP can accommodate, and you bypass your own ISP's DNS server.
It can be done with any system or even in a router, for the entire home.
What I can guarantee is quite a big difference in speed, affecting not just browsing the internet but also downloading as well. Better speeds can be seen if you use any Internet Download Manager, you can normally get away with 6 - 8 simultaneous connections!
I normally see 50Mbps from files downloading, always well under 1 minute for a 1Gb file.
I find out a lot being on Quora... many tips get posted on there.
Go to [Login to see the link] as you scroll down the page it has a tabbed menu for all Operating Systems, showing how to configure, which takes less than 2 minutes.
Hope it helps!
